Working with offender populations requires blending traditional mental health treatment with sound correctional practices, a combination of skills rarely acquired by community based practitioners. Dr. White’s consulting assessments and recommendations are based on more than a quarter century of providing and overseeing direct clinical service to offenders. He knows what the problems are and can offer practical solutions that have been crafted after years of struggling with these complex issues on a day-to-day basis. Both the U.S. and Canadian federal governments have utilized Dr. White’s services. In addition, 20% of state departments of correction and many local agencies have also used his consultation and/or training services.
Dr. White’s many years of clinical as well as administrative experience gives him a broad perspective for viewing the issues surrounding correctional suicide and mental health treatment. He seeks practical, common sense solutions and focuses on preventing rather than reacting to problems. He has a proven track record of helping administrators and clinicians improve their treatment programs, enhance program efficiency, and, in many cases, reduce exposure to legal liability.
